"Okay, Millie, just breathe," she muttered to herself, twisting this way and that, her arms flailing like she was a bird trying to take flight but only managing to flap her wings in a confined space. "You can do this."

"Do what exactly? Look like the Michelin woman at a party?" snickered Jake, her older brother, leaning against the doorway, his arms crossed over his chest. His mock-serious expression almost made her laugh.

"Shut up, Jake! I’m not stuck! It’s just... snug," she replied, turning her back to him in a futile attempt to pull the jacket off over her head. The faux fur lining was catching on her hair, and she could practically hear each strand crying out for mercy.

“A little snug, huh?” He raised an eyebrow, clearly having the time of his life. “You know, most people don’t wear their winter jackets to dinner.”

"Thanks for the tip, Captain Obvious." Millie huffed, the fabric now encasing her like a soft cocoon. "I was trying to make a fashion statement."

“Looks more like a call for help.” Jake pushed off the door frame and strode over, chuckling as he attempted to help her out. “Alright, let’s see what we can do.”

“Just don’t rip it, okay? It’s brand new,” she warned, trying to keep her voice steady while her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. Why did she think wearing this was a good idea?

After a few moments of tugging and pulling, Jake paused, eyes narrowing mischievously. “You know what this reminds me of, right?”

“Oh no,” Millie's eyes widened as she anticipated his next words. “Don’t you dare—”

“The Great Escape of 2023! When my sister was trapped in her puffer jacket at a family dinner!” he declared dramatically, bursting into laughter.

“Shut up!” She finally managed to get the jacket loose enough to turn her body, but as she did, her elbow knocked the lamp on the side table and sent it crashing to the floor. 

“Nice recovery!” Jake wheezed, doubling over with laughter now.

“Fine! I’ll just accept my fate as the Jacket Princess!” Millie exclaimed, throwing her arms up dramatically. “Here lies Millie, fashion victim of 2023.”

“If only you hadn’t chosen that one ‘I’m so fashionable’ jacket!” Jake teased, still chuckling. “Just think of it this way: if someone tries to kidnap you, you’ll look too fabulous to be taken!”

“Ha! Because they wouldn’t want to ruin a fashionable jacket.” Millie rolled her eyes but couldn’t help a smile creeping onto her face. “But seriously, you have to help me get this thing off before Mom comes in and thinks I'm struggling out of it on purpose.”

“Okay, okay.” He finally schooled his expression, his eyes sparkling with mischief. “On the count of three. One… two… three!”

With one final yank, the jacket popped loose. Millie stumbled back, her breath escaping her lungs in a gasp. "Oh my gosh, I’m free!" 

“Congratulations! You’ve survived a major fashion crisis,” Jake proclaimed, giving her a mock salute. 

Just then, their mom came around the corner, a knowing grin on her face. “What are you two up to?”

“Just playing a little game of ‘how to escape a puffer jacket,’” Millie replied, tossing her hair over her shoulder with a laugh.

“Sounds fun! Can I join?” her mom quipped, laughing as she looked at the heap of faux fur. 

“Absolutely not,” Millie shot back, her laughter echoing through the hallway as they all joined in the light-hearted moment.
